William Rowe William “Bill” Rowe



Funeral services for William “Bill” Rowe, age 83, of Watertown, SD will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2007 in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown. Gary Witcher will officiate. Bill passed away on July 21, 2007 at a hospital in Watertown.

Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Cagley-Smith Post #60 of the American Legion, will be in the Rosehill Cemetery, Clark, SD. Pallbearers will be: Waino Dallmann, Paul Burns, Roger Ehlert, Steve Sterud, Jeremy Struckman, and George Reynolds.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday preceding services at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Saturday by 12:30 p.m. for a prayer service.

Bill was born on January 5, 1924 at Kranzburg, SD to Myron and Sena (Iverson) Rowe. He attended Henry High School, Henry, SD and graduated in 1942. Bill particularly liked playing basketball and baseball during his high school days. Bill was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 21, and was trained at Camp Robinson in North Little Rock, AR. He received further training as a paratrooper and received his honorable discharge in 1947. He was called back for further service through the reserves and served again from 1949-1950. He then began working at Gilbert’s Filling Station and lumber yard in Watertown, SD.

Bill married Eva I. Mann on September 9, 1955 at Watertown, SD. Following marriage, he continued working at the lumber yard until he went to work for J.H. Larson Electric. He worked there until his retirement. Upon retirement, he started Rowe’s Magnetite Window Service, which he managed until he was 71.

Bill was a member of the Church of Christ, where he had served as an elder. He went on a mission trip to Nigeria, Africa in 1987. Bill was a great Bible scholar and spent many hours corresponding with Bible students from around the world. His vast Bible knowledge and presence at the church will be greatly missed. Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and all sporting events; including the Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

Bill is survived by three daughters: Kay and her husband, Dwight Phillips, and their children, Emilee and Nick, of Little Rock, AR, Lynn and her husband, Doug Dye, and their daughter, Tracey, of Edmond, OK, and Lori and her husband, Wesley Miles, and their son, Grant, of Owasso, OK; one brother: Warren and his wife, Marjorie Rowe, of Hill City, KS; and a twin sister: Wilma Palm of Billings, MT.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, his parents, three brothers: John Rowe, Bob Rowe, and Jim Rowe, and three sisters: Gert Hauf, Mary Johnson, and Lorna Rowe.
