Memorial services for Joan M. Mandery (Grandma J), age 72, of Lincoln, NE formerly of Watertown, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown. The family is requested to meet at the chapel by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Joan passed away suddenly on August 23, 2007 at her residence. She was the widow of Reo Mandery. Joan was born on November 24, 1934 at Aberdeen, SD to Harold and Stella (VanOrnem) Williams. She attended schools in Aberdeen and graduated in 1952. Joan married Reo Mandery in 1961. Joan spent many years working at Memorial Hospital. She purchased the Palace Of Sweets in 1974 and became the Activity Director of Prairie Lakes Nursing Home in 1976. Joan was active in her community serving as PTA President, Director of Girl Scouts, and working in the S.D.S.U Extension office as a social worker. In her later years, Joan was involved with the Green Thumb Program as the Coordinator, in the Red Cross, and local blood drives. She also volunteered for the 2004 Republican Party. In 2006 she moved to Lincoln, NE. Joan enjoyed her grandchildren, reading, crossword puzzles, embroidering, gardening, and most of all Mr. Kitty, her loyal furry companion. Joan will be remembered by her family. She is survived by four daughters: Nancy and her husband, Tom Hokenson, of Scandia, MN, Kim and her husband, Steve Morock, of Lincoln, NE, Mary Beth and her husband, Alan Hollatz, of Clark, SD, and Stacy and her husband, David Erdmann, of Lincoln, NE; two sons: Ted Mandery of Sioux Falls, SD, and Mark and his wife, Dawn Mandery, of Watertown, SD; two sisters: Pauline Hammrich of Mobridge, SD, Ione and her husband, Dick Marko, of Ipswich, SD; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reo, parents, Harold and Stella, and granddaughter Katie Marie. Memorials may be directed to Kim Morock, 1535 Folsom Street, Lincoln, NE.
