 Funeral services for Roy Brown, age 100, of Watertown, SD will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 20, 2007 in the Florence United Methodist Church, Florence, SD. Rae Speiser will officiate. Roy passed away on September 15, 2007 at a care center in Watertown.
Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Roy’s great-great-grandchildren: Jackson Grangaard, Kennedy Grangaard, and Riley Vavruska. Active pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren: Trevor Anderson, Alyssa Anderson, Bradley Rossow, Andy Rossow, Ryan Anderson, Jami Grangaard, Jenna Donald, Jill Donald, Jacy Anderson, and Jadyn Anderson. Music will be provided by Florence Gebur, organist and Deverne and Jan Rickard, vocalists. Visitation will be in Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 12:30 for a prayer service. Roy was born on June 11, 1907 at Kranzburg, SD to Sheridan P. “Dick” and Myrtle Dawn (Scott) Brown. Roy married Vivian May White on November 3, 1936 at Watertown, SD. His employment included working on a farm, at the Amish Food Market, driving school bus, working for A.S.C.S., and driving a bookmobile for almost 20 years. Roy was a member of the Florence United Methodist Church and Methodist Men’s Group, the Golden Years Club at Florence, and the Whirl Away Square Dance Club. He was in the National Guards- 34th Signal Co. for 9 years. Roy enjoyed stock car racing, square dancing, reading western books, and loved coffee with “brown” pie. Roy is survived by his wife, Vivian; one daughter, Gayla Anderson and her fiancé Veirn Pederson, of Watertown, SD; one brother, Samuel G. Brown of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters, and one great-grandson. |
