Earlene Marie Narem, daughter of Lester and Marian (Wojcik) Narem, was born on June 14, 1943 in Watertown, SD. She was raised on her parents’ farm near Ortley, SD and graduated from high school in Waubay, SD. She then attended Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, where she met and married her husband, Dale Dobberpuhl. She was a member of the Holy Name Catholic Church and participated enthusiastically in the church choir. Earlene was a skilled craftsperson, learning gold and silversmithing while living in Austria. She enjoyed many hobbies such as knitting, sewing, spinning, weaving, Polish paper-cutting and hardanger until pain limited her ability to do such work with her hands. Over the years, she taught classes in those crafts, and three of her books on hardanger design were published. She also owned and operated her own antique business for many years in various locations. Earlene enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, visiting friends and family, attending concerts and playing cards. She is survived by her husband, Dale of Watertown, SD; two sons: David and his wife, Ann, of Omaha, NE; and Bryan and his wife, Lynnette, of Prior Lake, MN; her mother, Marian Narem of Webster, SD; three brothers: Leon and his wife, Marilu, of Chanhassen, MN; Robert “Bob” and his wife, Linda, of Twin Brooks, SD; and James of Long Beach, CA; five grandchildren; four nieces and a nephew. Earlene was preceded in death by her father and her daughter, Susan. |
