Funeral Mass for Mrs. Lawrence (Mary Della) Knudsen, age 93, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, October 5, 2007 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Watertown, SD. Fr. James Bream will officiate. Music will be provided by the Immaculate Conception choir. Mary passed away on October 2, 2007 at a care center in Watertown, SD.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Mary’s granddaughters: Leslie Knudsen, Amy Knudsen, Sallie J Knudsen, Kristina Stephens, Amanda Stephens, Malinda Petersen, and Anna Petersen, and grandniece, Stephanie Schaefer. Active pallbearers will be Mary’s grandsons: Bruce Petersen and Paul Petersen, and Mary’s grand-nephews: Nick Horvath, Ryan Thorson, Dan Thorson, and Matt Thorson. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. and a Scripture Wake Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church on Friday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 10:00 a.m. to attend the service. Memorials may be directed to Hospice and Jenkins Living Center. Mary was born on August 8, 1914 in Watertown, SD to Edward and Veronica (Kahnke) O’Toole. She attended school in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1932. She attended college at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD. Following college, she taught at rural schools near Watertown, SD and in Minnesota. Mary also taught at Parker Junior High in Parker, SD and in Childress, TX. Mary married Lawrence Knudsen on December 16, 1944 at Childress, TX. The couple returned to Watertown, SD and Mary taught in the Watertown school system for many years. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, H.O.A. Club, Republican Women, was a founding member of B.P.W., and a founding member of Holy Name Catholic Church where she was active in various church groups. Mary enjoyed being with family and friends and was an excellent seamstress. She also enjoyed making crafts and giving them to family and friends. Because of her faith in the Lord, she realized that death is not the end but a new beginning. Mary is survived by her husband, Lawrence, of Watertown, SD; one son, Stephen J. and his wife, Christie Knudsen, of Kingsville, TX; two daughters, Marilyn and her husband, Harley Petersen, of Watertown, SD and Elizabeth Ann and her husband, Craig Stephens, of Allen TX; one niece, Janice Bienn, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Molly Fowler, Tyson Petersen, and Isaac Petersen. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Delores Thorson, and one nephew, Larry Thorson. |
