Ronane Zirbel Funeral services for Ronane Alvin Zirbel, age 80, of Watertown, SD formerly of South Shore, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 7, 2007 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, South Shore. Rev. Jason Schmidt will officiate. Music will be provided by Hilda Grewing as organist with congregational singing. Ronane passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at a care center in Watertown.

Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Watertown, SD, will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Pallbearers will be: Steve Wartenbee, Kevin Snoozy, Mike Murray, Rodney Noeldner, Duane Dolen and Chuck Werner.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 10:00 a.m. for a family prayer service.

Ronane was born on July 6, 1927 on a farm southeast of South Shore, SD to Andrew F. and Margaret (Klipstein Selchert) Zirbel. He was baptized and confirmed at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Ronane attended school at Waverly District #63. Following school, he farmed, worked at Swift & Co. and later joined the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean Conflict.

On August 27, 1954, Ronane married Mildred “Tom” Schultz. He worked at Gooch Sales and South Shore Creamery. He owned ˝ interest in the Koll & Zirbel Garage and owned the Gamble Store for 11 years.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, South Shore, SD and served as Treasurer and Trustee. Ronane drove school bus for 25 years and also drove the career bus. He served as fire chief, commander of VFW Post #4339, president of Community Club and was a current member of VFW Post #750, Watertown, SD. Ronane loved to garden and had many beautiful flowers around his house and on the boulevard. He enjoyed making clocks in all shapes and sizes which are in Germany, Sweden and various other countries. He was an all around handyman. Ronane and Mildred enjoyed camping, traveling, hunting and fishing together.

Ronane is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Watertown, SD; one brother, Wesley, and his wife, Leats Zirbel, of Fredricksburg, TX; one sister, Marlyce, and her husband, Eugene Moyer, of Watertown, SD; two sisters-in-law: Doris Berg and Ardis Zirbel Sweezo both of Watertown, SD and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Walter and Eldomar and one sister, Esther Stark.
