Funeral services for Mrs. June M. Chilson, age 82, of Florence, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 16, 2007 in the New Helgen Lutheran Church, Florence, SD. Rev. Gary Anderson will officiate. Mrs. Chilson passed away on November 12, 2007 at a hospital in Watertown, SD. Burial will be in the Goodhue Lutheran Cemetery, rural Florence, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be June’s grandsons, Tanner Chilson and Corbin Chilson. Active pallbearers will be: Jim Chilson, Joel Chilson, Josh Chilson, Wayne Peterson, Larry Bergh, and Maynard Rasmussen. Music will be provided by Dorothy Anderson, organist, and Lorraine Meland, soloist. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. June Margaret was born on July 3, 1925 to James Elmer and Mary (Flaa) Boyd at Minneapolis, MN. She grew up and attended Minnehaha and John Erickson grade schools and Nakomis Jr. High School in Minneapolis. The family moved to Duluth, MN; where she was confirmed in Chester Park Reform Church, attended East Jr. High School, and graduated from Duluth Central High School in 1943. She attended Warner Beauty School in Duluth for one year, and then in 1949, completed her Sociology and Elementary Education degrees at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. She also received a teacher’s certification at Superior State College in Superior, WI. She then continued her Christian education at Lutheran Bible Institute for one year and worked many part time jobs at hospitals, children’s homes, Augburg Publishing and as a sales clerk. She began her full time work at the Crippled Children’s School in Jamestown, ND as head supervisor, and then moved to Aiken, SC to perform parish work for the National Lutheran Council. Her love of teaching children returned her to teach at various grade schools in Sisseton, SD, Brooklyn Center, MN, Osseo, MN, and Grant Elementary in Watertown, SD. June was united in marriage on June 20, 1959 at First Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, MN to Robert Lowell Chilson. After the first child was born, she dedicated her life to her family and became a full time homemaker, raising three sons together with her loving husband, Robert. She continued her dedicated Christian life as a member of Goodhue Lutheran Church in rural Florence, SD, participating and leading in various Christian women’s groups, church groups, Sunday school, and Bible studies. She was an active member of the local Gideon’s Auxiliary and participated in the Eden Homemakers Extension Club. She liked traveling, picture taking, family genealogy, baking, and cooking. Throughout her life, her greatest enjoyment was the time she spent with family and friends; especially those times spent with her grandsons. June is survived by her husband, Robert Chilson of Florence, SD; three sons: Randy Chilson of Watertown, SD, Steve and his wife, Sherisse Chilson of Watertown, SD, and Lynn Chilson of Canton, SD; one brother, Rev. James Allen Boyd and his wife Carolyn, of La Grange, TX; and two grandchildren: Tanner Chilson and Corbin Chilson. She was preceded in death by her parents.
