Harry Borns Funeral services for Harry Otto Borns, age 91, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 17, 2007 in the St. Martinís Lutheran Church, Watertown. Rev. Dennis Hayes will officiate. Music will be provided by Karen Livingston, organist and Sharon Renner, soloist. Harry passed away on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at a care center in Watertown.

Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be the residents and staff at Jenkinís Living Center. Active pallbearers will be Harryís nephews: Steve Borns, Virgil Borns, Mark Beutow, James Beutow, Roger Hanson, Jeff Moes, Gary Borns and Mike Morlan.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 10:00 a.m. for a family prayer service.

Harry was born on October 12, 1916 in Codington County, SD to Arthur and Anna (Noeldner) Borns. Harry was baptized and confirmed at St. Johnís Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mazeppa Township, Grant County, SD. He attended school at Germantown Township. Harry farmed until entering the United States Army at Ft. Snelling in 1942. He was honorably discharged in August of 1943. Harry returned to the farm and farmed until retiring and moving to Watertown in 1985.

On November 2, 1963, Harry married Dorothy (Keat) Dahl at Mazeppa Lutheran Church.

He was a member of St. Johnís for many years serving on various boards. He was presently a member of St. Martinís Lutheran Church, Watertown. Harry served on the Township Board for Germantown and Leola Townships for many years, the Codington County ASCS Board, the South Shore Germantown District #65 School Board and the Farmersí Co-op Elevator Board. He was also a member of the South Shore Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the American Legion for over 60 years. Harry worked partime writing insurance for Codington County Farm Mutual and DeSmet Farm Mutual. He enjoyed playing softball and managing the South Shore Co-op Creamery team. Harry also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling and visiting.

He is survived by three step-children: LaVonne and her husband, George Selchert, of South Shore, SD; Douglas L. Dahl of Sioux Falls, SD; and Wallace J. and his wife, Judy Dahl, of Watertown, SD; one step daughter-in-law, Judy Dahl, of Watertown, SD; three brothers: Virgil and his wife, Donna Borns, and Wilmer Borns all of Watertown, SD; and Raymond and his wife, Jane Borns, of Kit Carson, CO; three sisters: Jeanette and her husband, John Moes; Ruby Hanson and Delores and her husband, Glenn Beutow, all of Watertown, SD; several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; one step-son, Maurice; his parents; two brothers and one sister.
