Howard Selchert Funeral services for Howard Charles Selchert, age 81, of Watertown, SD will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2007 in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, South Shore, SD. Rev. Jason Schmidt will officiate. Music will be provided by Hilda Grewing as organist with congregational singing. Howard passed away on Friday, November 23, 2007 at a care center in Watertown.

Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Pallbearers will be: Kip Bunde, Kelly Bunde, Joseph Richeal, Kyle Selchert, David Brown, Dallas Drake and Dion Pietz.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 10:30 a.m. for a family prayer service.

Howard was born on July 12, 1926 at home in rural South Shore, SD to George and Hilda (Blek) Selchert. He was baptized and confirmed in St. Luke’s Germantown Lutheran Church in Germantown Township. He was confirmed on July 6, 1941 by Pastor Charles Found. Howard was raised in the South Shore area and attended grade school at District #36 in Leola Township.

On May 9, 1948, Howard married Correne Zielsky at St. Luke’s Germantown Lutheran Church. The couple farmed near Stockholm for three years and moved west of South Shore in 1950. In 1974, they purchased the Louis Zielsky farm. They farmed there until 1991 when they moved into Watertown.

He was a founding member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. He also served on the council while attending St. Luke’s Germantown Lutheran Church. Howard enjoyed dancing, playing pinochle and visiting.

Howard is survived by his wife, Correne, of Watertown; one daughter, Alaine, and her husband, Kenneth Bunde, of Florence, SD; two sons: Donnie and his wife, Barb Selchert, of Watertown, SD and Dean and his special friend, Eileen Russman, of South Shore, SD; one sister-in-law, Shirley Selchert, of Watertown, SD; six grandchildren: Kip Bunde, Kelly Bunde, Angela Richeal, Gina Brown, Ginger Selchert and Kyle Selchert; and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clifford.
