Eunice O. Johnson Funeral services for Eunice O. Johnson, age 84, of Watertown, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2007 in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Watertown. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Eunice passed away on November 28, 2007 at a hospital in Watertown. She was the widow of Warren Johnson.

Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Eunice’s grandchildren: Lindsey Johnson, Nicole Johnson, Tyson and his wife Tonja Cox, Doug and his wife, LeeAnn Cox, Naas and his wife, Nicki Bibbey, and Kelly and his wife, Steph Smith; and great-grandchildren: Ethan and Kambel Cox, Hayden Wofford, Trayden Smith, Mandy Horn, Jeremy Cox, and Ignatius Bibbey.

Active pallbearers will be: Harold Singrey, Duane Peterson, Norm Luken, Darwin Brinkman, Joe Lakness, and Dale Spurrell. Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller, organist and Duane and Char Peterson, vocalists.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 1:30 for a prayer service.

Eunice was born on July 25, 1923 in Henry Township, Codington County, SD to Bernard Clarence and Phoebe Melissa (Arnold) Kuester. She was baptized at the Methodist Church in Hazel, SD and confirmed in the Episcopal Church in Naples, SD. Eunice attended school at Brantford District #4, Hamlin County, SD and graduated from Hazel High School in 1941. After graduation she attended General Beadle Teachers College in Madison, SD. She taught at Brantford District #4 School for two years.

Eunice married Warren Johnson on December 31, 1941 at Vienna, SD. While her husband was in the Armed Service, she attended Cadet Nurses Training at Bartron School of Nursing. Following Warren’s discharge, they lived in Naples. In 1947, the couple moved to the John Effring farm east of Naples where they were engaged in livestock and grain farming.

Eunice was a former member of Naples Lutheran Church where she was active in Ladies Aid and the Quilting Group. She also belonged to Hazel Senior Citizens and the American Legion Auxiliary of Vienna. Eunice was currently a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer where she was a member of Circle. She thoroughly enjoyed quilting and the companionship of her fellow quilters, cooking, baking, writing poetry, music, and entertaining.

Eunice is survived by one son, Dale and his wife, Debie Johnson, of Watertown, SD; one sister, Lois Rider Field and her husband, Gene, of Hazel, SD; one sister-in-law, Lily Johnson of Watertown, SD; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren, in 2003 and her parents.
