Elaine Remmers Funeral services for Elaine Remmers, age 92, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 21, 2007 in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Watertown, SD. Rev. Tom Christenson and Rev. Roger Spahr will officiate. Elaine passed away on December 17, 2007, her 92nd birthday, at a care center in Watertown. She was the widow of Arthur Remmers.

Burial will be in the South Elrod Church Cemetery, rural Clark, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Elaine’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be: Doug Remmers, Terry Josephson, Marty Remmers, Zach Remmers, Casey Remmers, Andy Remmers, and Rich Remmers. Music will be provided by Dorothy Fuller, organist, and Duane and Char Peterson, vocalists.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.

Elaine was born on December 17, 1915 at Foxton Township, SD to Frank and Ollie (Fox) Fuller. She attended rural school and graduated from Clark High School, Clark, SD.

Elaine married Arthur Remmers on December 24, 1934 at Clark County, SD. Following marriage, the couple farmed in Foxton Township, Clark County, until moving to Watertown in 1986. Elaine enjoyed caring for her family and doing many farm chores along side her husband. She also picked potatoes from a young age until she was 73 years old. She cooked at Watertown Boy’s and Girl’s Club from 1986 to 1998. She was also a grandma to numerous children during her years there.

Elaine received the following awards while living in Watertown: a Certificate of Appreciation from the Roosevelt School staff in 1988, the Woman and Youth Award Trophy in 1992, the World’s Greatest Cook Award from the Boy’s and Girl’s Club in 1993, the Jefferson Award from KELO TV in 1993, the Executive Proclamation for Elaine Remmers’ Day from the governor’s office of the state of South Dakota on December 17, 1995, a Certificate of Recognition from the office of the mayor in 1998, and the Honorary Optimist Award in 2001.

Elaine was a member of Naples Lutheran Church, Naples, SD for all of her married life. She was active in Ladies’ Aid and Circles and the Friendly Neighbor’s Club. Elaine enjoyed gardening, quilting, playing cards, fun times at Roy Lake, trips to Las Vegas, and a trip to Australia; which was a highlight of her life. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and loved attending their activities.

Elaine is survived by her children: Archie and his wife, Marlys Remmers, of Winner, SD, Karleen and her husband, Loren Josephson, of Lake City, SD, Wesley and his wife, Judy Remmers, of Modesto, CA, Dona Remmers of Las Vegas, NV, Carl and his wife, Mavis Remmers, of Cass Lake, MN, Gary and his wife, Kathy Remmers, of Orient, SD, Roger Remmers of Watertown, SD, and Arlo and his wife, Colita Remmers, of Watertown, SD; one brother, Dale and his wife, Lois Fuller, of Clark, SD; one sister, Elsie Remmers of Watertown, SD; two sisters-in-law: Louise Remmers of Clark, SD and Arlene Remmers of Iowa; 19 grandchildren, and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; one son, Lorraine Arlen; her parents; and four brothers.
