Funeral services for Virginia June Eide, age 85, of Rosholt, SD, formerly of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22, 2007 in the Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown, SD. Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate. Virginia passed away on December 18, 2007 at a hospital in Watertown, SD. Burial will be in the Trent Cemetery, Trent, SD at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Honorary pallbearers will be Virginia’s grandchildren, great-grandchildren, co-workers, and special friends. Active pallbearers will be: Jamie Griffith, John Eide, Greg Eide, Kalim Jacobs, Eric Miller, Leonard Pies, Phillip Pies, and Greg Knutson. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma, organist, and Judy Everson, soloist. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Virginia was born on March 22, 1922 in Moody County (rural Trent), SD to Walter and Violet (Olson) Reed. She attended rural school in Moody County and was the eighth grade Valedictorian of Moody County Rural Schools in 1936. She was also the Valedictorian of Trent High School in 1940. Virginia attended Sioux Valley Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a registered nurse in 1943. She was employed in Seattle, WA at King County Hospital until contracting tuberculosis. Virginia then returned to South Dakota for eighteen months to recuperate. She married Julleen “J.J.” Eide on November 24, 1945 at San Francisco, CA. Virginia worked at various hospitals and clinics including Bartron Clinic, Memorial Hospital, and Prairie Lakes Hospital for forty years as an obstetrics nurse until retirement. Following retirement, she was a “Grandma” for the children in her neighborhood giving them snacks and treats. Since 1963, Virginia has been a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she participated in Circle, Bible Study Group, and Stephan Ministries. She also belonged to the Birthday Club, Singles Club, 55+ Center, and Retired Bartron Nurses Group. Virginia enjoyed stamp collecting, Minnesota Twins ballgames, dancing, baking, and houseplants. She also enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Virginia is survived by two sons, Allen J. and his wife, Elaine Eide, of Brandon, SD and Robert W. and his wife, Carolyn Eide, of Rosholt, SD; two daughters, Sharman and her husband, Jim Miller, of Mansfield, TX and Bonnie and her husband, Darrell D. Pies, of Ortley, SD; two brothers, Ronald and his wife, Beverly Reed, of Oldham, SD and Wayne and his wife, Lucille Reed, of Sheldon, IA; one sister, Darlene Eggum of Sioux Falls, SD; thirteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and three sisters.
