Funeral Mass for Donald O’Neill, age 75, of Watertown, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 21, 2007 in the Holy Name Catholic Church, Watertown, SD. Fr. John Lantsberger will officiate. Music will be provided by Donna Williams as organist and Becky Lubbers as song leader. Don passed away on Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at his residence. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Seniors’ Golf League and past and present friends from Cooks and O.S.I. Active pallbearers will be Don’s nephew, Rick O’Neill, his niece, Stephanie Macro, and the next generation of the O’Neill family: Mike O’Neill, Dan O’Neill, Mark O’Neill, Terry O’Neill and Tammi O’Neill. Memorials may be directed to Prairie Lakes Hospice. Visitation will be in the Holy Name Catholic Church, Watertown, SD on Thursday from 3 to 6 p.m. with a 5:00 p.m. Scripture Wake Service and Friday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 1:30 p.m. to attend the services. Don was born on March 24, 1932 in rural Henry, SD to Frank and Ethel (Coyle) O’Neill. He attended rural grade school through the eighth grade and was a 1950 graduate of Henry High School. Don married Delores Christianson on September 9, 1950 at Henry, SD. The couple moved to Watertown in the early 50’s where Don was employed by Dakota Welding Supplies. He started working for Cook’s Office Products in 1965. In 1981, Don helped form and became partner of O.S.I. and worked there until his retirement in 1991. Don and Delores spent 16 winters in Mesa, AZ. He was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church where he was an active usher/greeter and helped organize drivers for Meals-On-Wheels. Don was a member of the Elk’s and the Men’s Sr. Golf League at the Watertown Municipal Golf Course. He enjoyed hunting, golfing, yardwork and gardening. Don helped coordinate and took pride in the annual flower planting along highway 81 for 16 years. He also enjoyed sports, especially watching his grandchildren participate in Nebraska. Don and Delores loved to travel and they traveled to four different continents. Don is survived by his wife, Delores, of Watertown, SD; three children: Douglas and his wife, Mary O’Neill, of Brookings, SD; Connie Stone of Sioux Falls, SD and Tim and his wife, Tracy O’Neill, of Lincoln, NE; one brother, Bill O’Neill, of Oakdale, MN; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale.
