Memorial services for Eleanor Mae West, age 87, of Estelline, formerly Goodwin, SD will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2008 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center, Estelline, SD. Eleanor passed away on December 28, 2007 at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center. She was the widow of Charles Loucks and Glenn West.
Burial will be in the Goodwin Cemetery, Goodwin, SD at a later date. Eleanor was born on February 25, 1920 at Redfield, IA to Horace Boyd and Beatrice Belle (Cox) McKinney. She attended school in Stuart, IA and graduated from Stuart High School in 1939. Eleanor married Charles Loucks in 1939, lived in Stuart, and had one daughter, Cheryl. Charles died in the line of duty as a Stuart policeman on Christmas night, 1954. Cheryl passed away on September 11, 1998. On February 5, 1962, Eleanor married Glenn West of Goodwin, SD and moved to his family farm just east of Goodwin. Glenn and Eleanor adopted four children whom they raised on this farm. Eleanor was a member of the Goodwin Baptist Church, Goodwin, SD for many years. She loved gardening, canning, sewing, and making quilts. When Eleanor and Glenn retired, they enjoyed camping and fishing. Eleanor also worked in Clear Lake doing sewing. They were both residents of Estelline Nursing and Care Center and celebrated 45 years of marriage before Glenn passed away on February 17, 2006. While a resident of the care center, Eleanor loved her word puzzles, reading books, and her Bible. Eleanor is remembered by her four children: Robert and his wife, Trudy West, Greg, Joe, and Lisa West; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Siegfried of Watertown, SD; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles and Glenn, parents, one daughter, Cheryl, and one sister, June. |
