Ronald F. Prouty Funeral services for Ronald F. Prouty, age 70, of Hayti, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8, 2008 in the New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti, SD. Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate. Music will be provided by Deanna Olsen as organist with congregational singing. Ronald passed away on Friday, January 4, 2008 at a care center in Lake Norden, SD.

Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Cook-Olsen Post #217 of the American Legion, Hayti, SD, will be in the New Hope Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hayti. Pallbearers will be: Daniel Minor, David Minor, Mark Prouty, Todd Prouty, Jay Prouty, Luke Prouty, Leon Tetzlaff and John Gettler.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 1:30 p.m. for a family prayer service.

Ronald was born on January 29, 1937 in rural Hayti, Hamlin County, SD to Fred and Lillie (Shelsta) Prouty. He was a 1955 graduate of Hayti High School and went on to attend two years of college. In 1957, Ronald joined the United States Army.

Ronald married Helen Danielson on June 6, 1959 at New Hope Lutheran Church. Following marriage, Ronald was honorably discharged from the Army in 1960 and started farming in the Hayti area. He was a grain and livestock farmer his whole life and enjoyed raising horses. In 1985, Ronald became an insurance salesman with Lutheran Brotherhood until 1990 when his health forced him to retire. Ronald continued to make his home on the farm.

He was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church where he taught Sunday school and held various offices. Ronald had a life long love of horses. He enjoyed many threshing bees and horse pulls. He drove his horses in parades, in the Centennial Wagon Train and organized many hayrides and sleigh rides. Ronald and Helen truly enjoyed the Amish community and attending the annual horse sale in Waverly, IA. He was a 4-H Leader and enjoyed pheasant hunting, especially the annual hunts with his many friends. Ronald was very proud of his children and grandchildren and always took the time to talk and listen.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Helen, of Hayti, SD; two sons: Michael and his wife, Berdi Prouty, of Hayti, SD and John Prouty of Minneapolis, MN; two daughters: Christine and her husband, Tim Chandler, of Watertown, SD and Andrea and her husband, Jay Roths, of Afton, TN; one sister, Donna Minor, of Sioux Falls, SD; one brother-in-law, Bob Tetzlaff, of Hayti, SD; two sisters-in-law: Aletha Prouty and Eleanore Prouty both of Hayti, SD; and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Lester and Lamoyne; and one sister, Lorraine Tetzlaff.
