 Funeral services for Vernon E. Pearson, age 79, of Summit, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2008 in the Hope Lutheran Church, Summit. Rev. Justin Neugebauer will officiate. Music will be provided by Val Moen, organist and DeVerne and Jan Rickard, vocalists. Vernon passed away on February 10, 2008 at a care center in Watertown, SD.
Burial will be in the Ortley Cemetery, Ortley, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Vernon’s many friends and neighbors. Active pallbearers will be Vernon’s grandsons: Andrew Smith, Stuart Pearson, Lukas Pearson, Nicholas Pearson, Brian Pearson and James Pearson. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service. Vernon was born on April 6, 1928 at Webster, SD. He graduated from Waubay High School in 1946. On February 6, 1950, Vernon married Iona Brattelid at Summit, SD. The couple farmed and raised cattle on the farm west of Summit. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. Vernon was a supervisor on the Ortley Township Board for many years and served on the Summit Elevator Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, taxidermy, restoring old pickups and tractors, gardening and spending time with his family, friends and his dog. Vernon is survived by his wife, Iona, of Summit, SD; seven children: LaVonne and her husband, Duane Christofferson, of Watertown, SD; Vincent Pearson of Glendale, AZ; Gregory and his wife, Colleen Pearson, of Ortley, SD; Vicky and her husband, Roger Smith, of Marvin, SD; Monty and his wife, Nancy Pearson, of Summit, SD; Mark and his wife, Becky Pearson, of Waubay, SD and Kari Pearson of Bismarck, ND; and 17 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother, Josephine Pearson. |
