Funeral services for Robert Myron Miller, age 91 of Wallace, SD will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 18, 2008 in the Calvary Lutheran Church, Wallace, SD. Rev. Mark Richardson will officiate. Music will be provided by Gerry Kasin as organist and Deverne and Janet Rickard as vocalists. Robert passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at his residence in Florence, SD. Burial will be in the Goodhue Cemetery, rural Florence. Pallbearers will be Robert’s grandchildren: Chris and his wife, Kim Bultsma; Dan Bultsma; Breck and his wife, Lyndsey Miller; Chandra and her husband, Arlo Brower; Michelle and her husband, Ryan Dale; Nicole and her husband, Brian Willis; and Sommer Miller and her fiancé, Kevin Keplar. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. and Monday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Monday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Robert was born on June 28, 1916 in Day County, SD to John William and Maria Matilda (Hoffman) Miller, the second of three children. His family moved to northwest Wisconsin in 1917. Robert attended grade school, starting in Foxboro, Wisconsin, then moving to Minnesota at the age of eight and back to Tomah, Wisconsin at the age of ten. He graduated from the eighth grade at a Paradise country school in Wisconsin. Robert was confirmed in the German Lutheran faith in Wisconsin in 1928. In 1937, he moved to South Dakota and farmed with his dad until his marriage. Robert married Helen Catherine Ohnstad on March 18, 1944. To this marriage, there were four children: Robert (Doreen), of Pierre, SD; Richard (Shirley), of Sioux Falls, SD; Kathryn of Pukwana, SD; and Patricia (John) Bultsma, of Sioux Falls, SD. In 1945, he and his family moved to a farm south of Florence, SD where he lived until he bought his farm southwest of Wallace in 1953. The family resided there until moving into Wallace in 1991. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, camping and anything about the outdoors. On his walks, he picked wildflowers to bring home to his wife. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Wallace, serving various offices of the church. Robert is survived by his wife, Helen, of 63 years; his four children and their spouses; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
