 Funeral services for Irene E. Arbogast, age 104, of Watertown, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in the First United Methodist Church, Watertown. Rev. Eric Grinager will officiate. Irene passed away on April 11, 2008 at the hospital in Watertown. She was the widow of Grant “Mike” W.R. Arbogast.
Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Pallbearers will be: Steve Arbogast, Dan Arbogast, Tim Makepeace, Blake Arbogast, Doug Arbogast, and Jeff Arbogast. Music will be provided by Dorothy Brugman, organist and Judy Everson, soloist. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Monday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Tuesday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Irene was born on November 17, 1903 to Oscar and Alma (McCord) Morton at Coin, IA. She attended school in Tarkio, MO and moved to SD in 1919. She attended college in Aberdeen, SD. Irene married Grant “Mike” W.R. Arbogast on September 20, 1923 at Clark, SD. The couple farmed west of Watertown, SD most of their life. They later moved to Grover, SD where they owned the grocery store. In 1948, they started the Sunnyside Inn on Lake Kampeska and later made their home in Watertown, SD. Grant passed away in 1974. Irene continued to live in Watertown until the time of her death. Irene was a member of First United Methodist Church, Prairie Queen’s Garden Club since 1930, and the Genealogy Society for 12 years. Irene is survived by one son: Darrel and his wife, Carol Arbogast, of Watertown, SD; one daughter: Cleta and her husband, Jim Lentsch, of Salem, SD; two daughters-in-law: Donna Arbogast of Watertown, SD and Beryl Arbogast of Mason City, IA; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant; two sons: Wayne and Keith; three brothers; two grandsons; and one great-granddaughter. |
