Funeral services for Harvey R. Reuer, age 77, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 15, 2008 in the Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Watertown. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill, organist, and Robbyn Givens and Alfred Reuer, vocalists. Harvey passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2008 at the hospital in Watertown. Burial, with military graveside rites provided by the Selby American Legion, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the Selby Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Selby, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Harvey’s friends. Active pallbearers will be Lewis Reuer, Rocky Reuer, Dustin Reuer, Devin Reuer, Brian Robertson and Lester Beitelspacher. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 10:00 a.m. for a family prayer service. Harvey was born on November 22, 1930 at Hoven, SD to Rudolph and Katherine (Buxcel) Reuer. He attended rural school graduated from Hoven High School in 1948. Harvey enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. After he was discharged in 1954, he returned to farm with his father. On April 2, 1961, Harvey married Judith Jordan at Selby, SD. The couple lived and farmed near Lowry, SD for 25 years. They moved to Watertown in 1986 and have lived here since. Harvey started working as a crop adjuster in 1987 and continued to work until his death. He was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and the American Legion. Harvey loved to dance, work on cars and watch Twins baseball. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. Harvey is survived by five sons: Randy and his wife, Louise Reuer, of Bowdle, SD; Johnny and his wife, Carol Reuer, of Hayti, SD; James and his wife, DeNora Reuer, of Hoven, SD; Greg Reuer and his special friend, Tara, of Estelline, SD; and Mark Reuer of Watertown, SD; his beloved friend, Delores Ward, of Watertown, SD; two brothers: Alfred and his wife, Carol Reuer, of Aberdeen, SD and Norbie and his wife, Barb Reuer, of Faulkton, SD; three sisters: Delores and her husband, Ervin Buechler, of Aberdeen, SD; Arleth and her husband, Don Mann, of Bismarck, ND; and Marina and her husband, Leonard Gross, of Burnsville, MN; ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife; one son, Paul; one daughter, Janet; his parents; two brothers and one sister.
