Funeral services for Dennis E. Halse, age 71, of Florence, SD will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in the New Helgen Lutheran Church, Florence, SD. Rev. Gary Anderson will officiate. Music will be provided by Dorothy Anderson, organist and Amber Lutz, soloist. Dennis passed away on May 16, 2008 in a hospital in Watertown, SD. Burial will be in the Dexter Cemetery, rural Florence, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Dennis’ grandchildren: Amber Lutz, Jason Lutz, Alissa and Sydney Halse, Jessica and Julie VanSickle, and Jenna, Jill and Justin Halse. Active pallbearers will be: Karl Forsburg, David Halse, Terry Halse, Gary Zubke, Kim Bartel, and Jack Zubke. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. and Wednesday preceding services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Dennis was born on June 14, 1936 at Watertown, SD to Ogden and Clarice (Kraling) Halse. He attended school at Augustana Academy in Canton, SD. After he graduated from high school, Dennis came home to work on the family farm. On October 26, 1958 Dennis married Elaine Mikkelson at Waubay, SD. The couple continued to farm and Dennis also built pole buildings and did custom round baling. Dennis loved farming. He enjoyed going to the sale barn and having coffee with his coffee buddies. He also enjoyed music and sang in the Watertown Barbershop Chorus as well as for weddings and funerals. He was a member of Florence School Board, the township board, the cemetery board, church council, and the Dexter #58 Country School Board. Dennis was interested in his family history and compiled a family history book. He is survived by his wife, Elaine, of Florence, SD; two sons: Bruce and his wife, Angie Halse, of Thomas, SD and Larry and his wife, Linda Halse, of Florence, SD; two daughters: Patty and her husband, Loren Lutz, of Webster, SD and Lisa VanSickle of Watertown, SD; one brother, Dwayne and his wife, Mildred Halse, of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister, Esther Syverson, of Redondo Beach, CA; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Halse of Huron, SD; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Glenn Halse; and one sister, Betty Forsburg.
