Verdon E. Parish Funeral services for Verdon E. Parish, age 80, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Music will be provide by A.J. Sherrill, organist and Robbyn Givens, soloist. Verdon passed away on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at a care center in Watertown.

Military graveside rites will be provided by Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Watertown. Burial will be at a later date in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be: Doc Palmer, Donnie Heiser, Don Reconnu, Jim Hanson, Vernon Cordell, Paul Meyer and all of Verdon’s coffee buddies.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday prior to services at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Wednesday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service.

Verdon was born on February 28, 1928 at Watertown, SD to Esta and Nina (Flanigan) Parish. He attended school in Watertown. Verdon enlisted in the U.S. Army on December 6, 1946 and was honorably discharged on October 25, 1949.

On April 14, 1951, Verdon married Lorraine Gartzke at Watertown, SD. Verdon and Lorraine have lived in Watertown all of their married lives except for two years when they lived in Spring Valley, MN. Verdon drove truck for various firms including: Transport, Inc., W.M.W., Allied and Cecil Bucholz. He also worked at the court house in Watertown.

He was a life member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. Verdon enjoyed fishing, watching ‘World of Outlaws’ sprint cars and reading Western novels. He especially enjoyed going out for coffee with his friends, their annual campout with family and spending time with his grandchildren.

Verdon is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of Watertown, SD; two sons: Mike and his wife, Judy Parish, of Watertown, SD and Scott and his wife, Shelly Parish, of Surrey, ND; two daughters: Vinceen and her husband, Ronald Hanson, of Watertown, SD and Kim and her husband, Cliff Boettcher, of Watertown, SD; three brothers: Keith and his wife, Marcella Parish, of Clark, SD; Dale and his wife, Connie Parish, of Ramsey, MN and Bob and his wife, Sue Parish, of Watertown, SD; one sister, Sharon, and her husband Harlan Stanley, of Clark, SD; three grandchildren: Presley, Dana and Lindsey and one great grandson, Julio, Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
