 Funeral services for Harvey D. Van Heel, age 70, of Watertown, SD will be at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008 in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD. Rev. Gary Westgard will officiate. Music will be provided by Dorothy Brugman, organist and Wendy L. Brown, soloist. Harvey passed away on May 18, 2008 in Rochester, MN.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Pallbearers will be Harvey’s children: David Van Heel, Laurie Taken, and Marty Van Heel and grandchildren: Trevor Van Heel, Samantha Van Heel, Jessica Taken, Casey Van Heel, Jeremy Van Heel, and Jesse Van Heel. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and Friday preceding services at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Friday by 2:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Harvey was born on October 26, 1937 in Sisseton, SD to Henry and Milda (Landmark) Van Heel. He graduated from Sisseton High School in 1955, On April 3, 1957, Harvey married Mary Lou Holman in Sisseton, SD. The couple lived in Sisseton until moving to Watertown, SD in 1962 where Harvey worked for Coca Cola and later for Old Home Bakery. In 1975, Harvey and Mary purchased the Regal Café. Harvey started working at Smith Equipment in 1986 and worked there until his retirement on June 1, 2003. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching his kids and grandkids play sports. Harvey loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of Ducks Unlimited. Harvey is survived by his wife, Mary Lou, of Watertown, SD; two sons, Marty and his wife, Carol Van Heel, of Watertown, SD and David and his wife, Patty Van Heel, of Sturgis, SD; one daughter, Laurie and her husband, Doug Taken, of Watertown, SD: two sisters, Mabel Howell of Sisseton, SD and Irene Boyce of WA; six grandchildren and one great-grandson, Kaiden. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and one daughter Brenda. |
