Rudolf "Kem" Kemnitz

Rudolf  Funeral Mass for Rudolf “Kem” Kemnitz, age 60, of Watertown, SD will be on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 9:30 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Watertown, SD. Fr. James Bream and Fr. Doug Binsfeld will concelebrate the Mass. Music will be provided by Leanne Geissinger, organist, with the Immaculate Conception Choir and Duane Smith, soloist. Kem passed away on June 17, 2008 at his residence.

Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Lincoln Elementary School Staff. Active pallbearers will be: Jeremy Meyer, Nick Sellers, Jacob Sellers, Chris Kemnitz, Joe Kemnitz, and Rich Stroup.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown on Friday from 6-8 p.m. with a Scripture Wake Service at 8:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Saturday prior to the services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 9:00 a.m. to attend the services.

Kem was born on November 15, 1947 in Veblen, SD to Rudolph and Ella (Julius) Kemnitz. He graduated from New Effington High School in 1966. After graduation Kem entered the U.S. Air Force.

He married Mavis Streich on December 4, 1970 in Tampa, FL. Kem was honorably discharged in 1973. He attended technical school in Mitchell, SD and majored in electrical maintenance. Kem worked for various electricians in Watertown, SD. In 1982, he started Kem’s Electric which he owned and operated for many years. Kem started working at Lincoln Elementary School in 2000 and continued to do electrical work part-time.

Kem was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, was a Eucharistic minister, Cub Scout leader and a former member of Jaycees. His faith and family were the center point of his life. He enjoyed gardening and landscaping. Kem was a devoted Twins and Vikings Fan. Kem loved his family and all of the kids at Lincoln Elementary School.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis, of Watertown, SD; one son, Jason, and his wife, Sarah Kemnitz, of Dell Rapids, SD; one brother, Len, and his wife, Jean Kemnitz, of Sioux Falls, SD; and one grandchild, Zachary.

Kem was preceded in death by an infant son, Kirk; his parents; and one sister.
