Funeral services for Garry A. Stamp, age 74, of Sioux Falls, SD formerly Watertown, SD will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2008 in the Grace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. Rev. Siri Sorenson will officiate. Music will be provided by Beverly Hesser, organist and Don Seim, soloist. Garry passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008 in a care center at Sioux Falls.
Inurnment will be in the columbarium at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be current and retired Highway Patrol Officers. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday prior to services in the church at Sioux Falls. The family is requested to meet in the church on Thursday by 10:30 a.m. for a family prayer service. Garry was born on June 19, 1934 on a farm southwest of White, SD in Afton Township to Robert and Marie (Seas) Stamp. He attended 7 ½ years of country grade school in Brookings County, SD; a half a year at Sinai Public School; and then graduated from Volga High School in 1952. He worked for two years at SDSU. Garry married Diane Johnson on August 28, 1954. He then worked for Bibby-Kallemeyer Dairies of Brookings for 13 years. Garry married Doris Dalrymple on July 1, 1981 at Webster, SD. From October 1967 to June 1989, Garry was a trooper for the South Dakota Highway Patrol. He retired in June of 1989 with the rank of Squad Sergeant. Garry was then employed at the Codington County Sheriff’s office from August 1989 until March 1995 and retired as County Sheriff on January 3, 1995. He also worked for two years for Frank Funeral Home of Wellington, KS. He was a member of SDHP Association, SDHP Retired Patrol Association, National Sheriff’s Association, SD Peace Officer’s Association and the Kiwanis Club of Wellington, KS. Garry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and working in his yard and garden. Garry is survived by his wife, Doris, of Sioux Falls, SD; three sons: Robert Stamp of Minneapolis, MN; Terry and his wife, Kathy Stamp, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and Brian Stamp of Alabama; four daughters: Susan and her husband, Gary Metzger, of Eureka, SD; Cindy Asheim of Scottsdale, AZ; Connie Stamp of Pompano Beach, FL; and Crystal and her husband, Chip Ray, of Byron, IL; nine grandchildren; several great grandchildren; one brother, Rodney Stamp, of Toronto, SD; one sister, Roberta, and her husband, Bob Schwartz, of Brookings, SD; and his special friends: Harold and his wife, Vernice Haux, of Leola, SD; and Clarence DeWald and George Dunn both of Sioux Falls, SD. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Norman. |
