Funeral services for Earl H. Bunde, age 88, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 11, 2008 in the St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, Watertown. Rev. Keith Petersen will officiate. Music will be provided by Bev Ewy as organist and Amy Weseloh as soloist accompanied by Matt and Joe Weseloh. Earl passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2008 in a care center at Watertown. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl’s granddaughters and great grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Earl's grandsons: Brent King, Bryan King, Loren Sandberg, Mark Redlin and Paul Heinze. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday prior to services in the church. The family is requested to meet in the church on Friday by 10:00 a.m. for a family prayer service. Memorials may be directed to Great Plains Lutheran High School or Prairie Lakes Hospice. Earl Herbert Bunde was born on April 30, 1920, in rural Watertown, SD to Otto A. and Ida (Fromke) Bunde. He was raised on the family farm north of Watertown with his brothers and sisters. Earl attended Germantown District #61, a one-room country school. He was baptized and confirmed in St. John’s Lutheran Church at Rauville, SD. On July 16, 1939 Earl married Helen Strege in St. John’s Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on a farm north of Watertown where they lived and farmed for 50 years. Earl and Helen moved into Watertown in 1990. After St. John’s Lutheran Church closed in 2002, they became members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church at Watertown. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church where he was active on the church council, the cemetery board and the choir. Earl was also a Germantown Township supervisor for many years. He was an avid trapper and hunter from an early age. The farm, with a creek running through the pasture, was a haven for the sport that he loved. Earl is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Helen, of Watertown; two daughters: Audrae and her husband, Darryl King, of Mankato, MN; and Beverly and her husband, Glenn Hasse, of Eau Claire, WI; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; one brother, Gilbert, and his wife, Hazelle Bunde, of Watertown, SD; and one sister, Alice Moyer, of Watertown, SD. He was preceded in death by one son, Roger Earl; one daughter, Mary Ann; his parents; and two brothers.
