Funeral services for Ione G. Nebel, age 79, of Watertown, SD will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008, in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown. Rev. Wayne Gallipo and Rev. Sam Hatelstad will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist with congregational singing. Ione passed away on Monday, August 18, 2008 at her residence, following a long illness. She was the widow of Harold Nebel who passed away on October 21, 2001. Burial will be in the New Hope Lutheran Cemetery, rural Hayti. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Kim Wilde, Ione’s Home Health Nurses and the Home Connection Staff. Active pallbearers will be Ione’s grandchildren: Dustin Nebel, Keith Nebel, Paul Nebel, Rick Nebel, Kelly Nebel, and Valerie Chicoine. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Friday prior to services. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Friday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service. Ione was born on March 13, 1929, on a farm in Hamlin County, SD, to Helmer and Esther (Anderson) Stormo. She moved to Watertown at six months of age. She attended school in Watertown and rural school in Hamlin County for a short time. Ione was a graduate of Hayti High School. On January 9, 1947, Ione married Harold Nebel at Milbank, SD. Following their marriage, she raised her family and helped with all aspects of farming, including helping in the fields and taking care of the livestock. Ione moved to Watertown after Harold became ill. She worked in the kitchen at St. Ann’s and Memorial Hospital and at Prairie Lakes Nursing Home. She then took care of Harold until his death. She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was on the cemetery board. Ione helped with many Memorial Day programs at New Hope Cemetery. Ione is survived by one son, Dale “Lucky”, and his wife, Mike Nebel, of Spearfish, SD; one special son, Randy Sour, of Watertown, SD; one brother, Leo, and his wife, Audrey Stormo, of Watertown, SD; one sister, Elaine Emgarten, of Watertown, SD; six grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Danny and Tim; one brother, Howard; and one special sister, Joyce Aho.
