Funeral services for Daisy Ethel Emma Kannas, age 87, of Watertown, SD, formerly South Shore, SD will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2008, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, South Shore. Rev. Jason Schmidt and Rev. Keith Petersen will officiate. Music will be provided by Hilda Grewing as organist with congregational singing. Daisy passed away on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at her residence. She was the widow of George Kannas who passed away on March 31, 1997. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Pallbearers will be Daisy’s grandsons: Taylor Kannas, Jeff Kannas, Jarrod Kannas, Justin Kannas, Michael Rude, Chad Borns, Landon Kirsch, Jim Engels, Paul Weiss, and Kevin Wolsky. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Daisy was born on February 26, 1921, in Rauville Township, Codington County, SD to Eli and Emma (Zantow) Lentz. She was baptized at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Rauville Township by Pastor Otto Klett. Daisy attended Rauville School District #15. She was confirmed at St. John’s Church by Pastor Gustave Schlegel. On September 14, 1941, Daisy and George Kannas were married at St. John’s Church by Pastor Martin Lemke. In 1991, Daisy and George were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. The couple farmed in the South Shore area until 1996 when they moved into Watertown. She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church of South Shore where she was active in the Ladies’ Aid. She taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church of Germantown Township, SD. She enjoyed gardening, flowers and being with family. Daisy is survived by two sons: Leo and his wife, Jan Kannas, and Terry and his wife, Darla Kannas, all of Watertown, SD; two daughters: Marlyce and her husband, Harland Borns, of Watertown, SD and Barbara Rude of Kindred, ND; three brothers: Clifford and his wife, Velma Lentz, of Watertown, SD; Leonard and his wife, Emmy Lentz, of Indian Head, MD and LeRoy Lentz of Watertown, SD; two sisters: Lillian Livingston of San Diego, CA and Delores and her husband, Lyle Schmeling, of Centennial, CO; two sisters-in-law: Regina Lentz and Eythal Kannas, both of Watertown, SD; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
