Steven L. Peterson Funeral services for Steven L. Peterson, age 59, of Florence, SD will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2008, in the New Helgen Lutheran Church, Florence. Pastor Rae Speiser and Rev. Gary Anderson will officiate. Music will be provided by Dorothy Anderson, organist and Laura Hummel, soloist. Steve passed away on Tuesday, August 26, 2008, at his residence.

Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, will be in the Goodhue Cemetery, Florence. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Steve’s family, friends, and Star Route Drivers. Active pallbearers will be his nephews: Jess Peterson, Cody Peterson and Dusty Peterson and also Dan Tschakert, Jerry Freudenthal, Steve Arnesen, Gary Campbell and Chuck Ruprecht.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Friday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the United Methodist Church, in Florence, on Friday by 10:00 a.m. for a prayer service.

Steve was born on November 12, 1948 at Watertown, SD to Selmer and Betty (Floden) Peterson. He attended grade school in Phipps Township and graduated from Florence High School. Steve joined the U.S. Army and served his country from 1968 to 1970.

On July 10, 1971, Steve married Linda Arnesen at Egeland Lutheran Church, rural Waubay, SD. He was confirmed in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Steve owned Standard Oil Bulk and was employed by Angus, Dakota Tube, and Farmland. For the past ten years, Steve has been a Star Route Driver.

He was a member of New Helgen Lutheran Church. Steve’s garage was his pride and joy. He enjoyed woodworking, ice fishing, pheasant and deer hunting, stamp and coin collecting and hay hauling. He loved spending time with his grandkids. He also enjoyed having coffee and playing cards at the Pioneer Café. Steve always had a smart remark for everyone.

Steve is survived by his wife, Linda, and two daughters: Lacey and her husband, Chad Lambert, and Kayla Peterson all of Florence, SD and Kayla’s special friend, Mark Ulmer, of Watertown, SD; his mother, Betty, of Watertown, SD; two brothers: Stan and his wife, Debby Peterson, of Watertown, SD and Wayne and his wife, Deb Peterson, of Wallace, SD; one sister, Sheryl Ward, and her life companion, Ron Hansen, of Castlewood, SD; and two grandchildren, Makenna and Jayden Lambert.

He was preceded in death by one son, Chad, and his father, Selmer.
