Jerome A. Harriott Funeral services for Jerome A. Harriott, age 80, of Watertown, SD will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008 in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD. Pastor Stephen Lauricella will officiate. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma, organist, and Judy Everson, soloist. Jerome passed away on August 31, 2008 at his residence.

Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, will be in Bergen Lutheran Cemetery, rural Florence, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be “all of Jerome’s friends and neighbors." Active pallbearers will be: Bruce Halse, Larry Halse, Don Flisrand, Billy Drake, Bruce Schwinger, and Todd Becking.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown on Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday preceding services at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Thursday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service

Jerome was born on November 10, 1927 in Watertown, SD to John and Cora (Ness) Harriott. The family moved to Dexter Township near Florence, SD where Jerome attended Daley Country School for eight years. In 1950, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and taught school in Korea while serving during the Korean Conflict.

Jerome married Kaye Pierce on September 21, 1958 at Egeland Lutheran Church, rural Waubay, SD. The couple lived in Chicago, IL for five years and then moved back to the Florence area in 1964 where they farmed. They retired from farming in 1984. The couple then moved to Watertown, SD where Jerome operated heavy equipment for road construction. He retired in 1996. Jerome then worked part-time at Cowboy II Convenience Store and at Stadley Construction. Jerome and Kaye would have celebrated fifty years of marriage on September 21, 2008.

Jerome was a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was an officer of Luther League of Bergen Church. He was also a member of the American Legion. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jerome also enjoyed farming, woodworking, hunting and fishing, traveling, flying model airplanes, mechanical work and operating big machinery.

He is survived by his wife, Kaye, of Watertown, SD; three daughters: Pam Becking and her special friend, Greg Kliegel, of Watertown, SD, Shelley and her husband, William Gerken, of Vienna, SD, and Trude and her husband, Gary Spicer, of Wessington, SD; five granddaughters and three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Corretta Blow, of Pierre, SD.

Jerome was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
