Lois M. Bruflat Memorial services for Lois M. Bruflat, age 95, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly Wallace, SD, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, October 3, 2008, in the Calvary Lutheran Church, Wallace. Rev. George Sagissor from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls will officiate. Music will be provided by Suzanne Olawsky. Lois passed away on Friday, September 26, 2008, at a care center in Sioux Falls.

Burial of her cremains will be in the Telemarken Cemetery, rural Wallace.

Visitation, with family present, will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Arrangements are being handled by Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown.

Memorials may be directed to Compassionate Care Hospice of Sioux Falls or to the Telemarken Cemetery Association.

Lois was born on January 11, 1913, on the family farm near Doland, SD, to Clarence and Lula (Shoecraft) Bell. She attended Richfield School in rural Spink County and graduated from Doland High School in 1931. Following graduation, she attended Northern Normal School, (today, Northern State University) in Aberdeen, SD, and earned her teaching certificate. She taught at a rural school in Spink County for several years.

Lois married Gilbert “Gilly” Bruflat on June 18, 1939, at Raymond, SD. The couple moved to Tyler, MN, and moved back to South Dakota in 1942. In 1944, they moved to the farm south of Wallace and lived there until moving into Wallace in 1987. In January of 2000, Lois moved to Helping Hand Assisted Living in Brandon, SD, where she resided until moving to the Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls in the fall of 2005.

She was very active in Calvary Lutheran Church where she helped start the church library and taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She was also an active participant in the Calvary Women’s organization. Lois was a 4-H Leader for many years as well as a member of the Coffee Cup Extension Club. She and Gilly also participated in the Wallace Senior Citizens Group. Lois was an avid gardener and accomplished seamstress.

Lois is survived by three daughters: Karen and her husband, Bob Stevens, of Sioux Falls, SD; Sharon and her husband, Gene Bricker, of Euless, TX; and Gail Bruflat of Scottsbluff, NE; four grandchildren: Tim Stevens of Sioux Falls, SD; Charlene Stevens and her husband, David Paulson, of Wichita, KS; Erik and his wife, Kara Bricker, and Ryan Bricker all of Dallas, TX; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Gardner, of Madison, SD; one brother, Melvin and his wife, Phyllis Bell, of Denver, CO; four sisters-in-law: Evelyn Bell of Howard, SD; Christine Gauslow of Moorhead, MN; Velma Bruflat of Clark, SD; and Lorraine Bruflat of Little Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; an infant daughter, Margaret; her parents; six brothers; and four sisters.
