Orvin M. Dahl Funeral services for Orvin Milo Dahl, age 90, of Watertown, SD will be at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2008 in the Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown. Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate. Music will be provided by Marsha Jelsma, organist, and Paul Peterson, soloist, accompanied by Verla Peterson. Orvin passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at a care center in Milbank, SD.

Burial will be in One Road Bethel Cemetery, rural Sisseton, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be Orvin’s farm and ranch friends. Active pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Pat Stickland, Jim Stickland, Eric Dahl, Bill Argo, Jr., Kristene Deutsch, Kimberly Argo, Amanda Zimmerman, Adam Zimmerman, and his step-grandchildren: Shannon Swenson, Marya Swenson, Valerie Wilcox, Laura Swenson, and Aaron Kadrmas.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Friday from 4-7 p.m. and in the church on Saturday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 9:00 a.m. for a prayer service.

Orvin was born on June 18, 1918 on a farm north of Ortley, SD to Tom and Clara (Mikkelson) Dahl. He was baptized and confirmed at Ortley Lutheran Church by Pastor Ness. He had five brothers and five sisters. The large family was raised by his mother. Orvin’s father passed away at a young age. Orvin attended country school and later farmed with his brother Ed on the home place.

He married Arlette Landmark on October 25, 1942. They recently celebrated their sixty-sixth wedding anniversary. Orvin was a farmer, rancher, sheep shearer, and wool buyer on the farm where they lived for thirty-eight years. He also was director of Farm Mutual Insurance for many years and served as the treasurer of One Road School. The couple moved to Watertown, SD in 1980. After Orvin retired, he continued to ride horses and help neighbors, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The couple moved to Stoney Brook Suites in June of 2008.

He was a member of One Road Bethel Church where he was a trustee and sang in the choir. When the couple moved to Watertown, they transferred their membership from Grace Lutheran Church in Sisseton, SD to Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown.

Orvin is survived by his wife, Arlette, of Watertown, SD; one son, Bryan and his wife, Denita Dahl, of Watertown, SD; two daughters: Lynette, and her husband, Doug Kadrmas, of Fargo, ND and LaDonna and her husband, Mark Zimmerman, of Aberdeen, SD; thirteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by one son, Douglas; one daughter, June Stickland; one grandson, Brady Dahl; his parents; five brothers and five sisters.
