Funeral services for Robert “Bob” T. Appelhof, age 69, of Sioux Falls, SD, formerly Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Watertown. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Music will be provided by Marian Riddle, organist, and Don Seim, soloist. Bob passed away on December 16, 2008, at his residence. Burial, with military graveside honors provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Pallbearers will be: Alex Gast, Nick Gast, Dale Davis, Herb Quam, Mark Gast, and Ron Reuter. Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Bob was born on November 4, 1939, at Rapid City, SD, to Peter and Marie (O’Brien) Appelhof. He moved to Goodwin as a young boy and attended grade school in Kranzburg. Bob graduated from Goodwin High School in 1957. Following graduation, he attended General Beadle College in Madison, SD. Bob enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and following an honorable discharge, he joined the Watertown Police Department. Bob married Ruby “Susie” West on April 5, 1961, at Watertown, SD. In 1965, Bob joined the SD Highway Patrol and worked there until 1979, when he opened and owned Bob’s Champion Auto until 1996. Later, he sold cars at Krantz-Buick and then Sharp’s. The couple moved to Cambridge, MN, and Bob sold homes. He retired and they moved to Sioux Falls in April of 2008. He was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer. He also belonged to the American Legion, the SD Peace Officers, and the Elks. Bob enjoyed traveling, photography, golfing, and cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife, Ruby, of Sioux Falls; his four children: Kristi and her husband, Mark Gast, of Watertown, SD, Karen and her husband, Dale Davis, of Sioux Falls, SD, Laura and her husband, Herb Quam, of Watertown, SD, and Robert J. and his wife, Melissa Appelhof, of Blaine, MN; two brothers: Mike Appelhof, of Yankton, SD, and Jim and his wife, Carol Appelhof, of St. Louis Park, MN; one sister, Ann Sigelman, of Watertown, SD; and five grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rick “Smiley”; and one sister, Marilyn.
