Funeral services for Baine A. Arneson, age 82, of Hayti, SD, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009, in New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti, SD. Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate. Music will be provided by Helen Prouty, organist, with congregational singing. Baine passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at a hospital in Watertown, SD. Burial, with military graveside rites provided by Cook-Olsen Post #217 of the American Legion, Hayti, will be in New Hope Cemetery, rural Hayti. Honorary pallbearers will be Baine’s church family and other friends and neighbors. Active pallbearers will be Baine’s grandchildren. Visitation will be on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Hayti, SD, and in the church on Tuesday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Tuesday by 1:00 p.m. for a prayer service. Memorials may be directed to the Baine Arneson Family, P.O. Box 123, Hayti, SD, 57241 or New Hope Church, Hayti, SD, 57241. Baine was born on January 11, 1926, in Hamlin County, SD, to Clarence and Pearl (Lindstrom) Arneson. He went to grade school at Hamlin County Opdahl #4. He graduated from Hayti High School in 1943. He joined the Navy on April 18, 1944, and served during WWII, based at Pearl Harbor. He received an honorable discharge in 1945 after returning to take care of the family farm, when his father died in an accident. He worked in South Dakota until 1952 when he then went to work in California for several years. He attended Lutheran Bible Institute, in Minneapolis for a time. In 1958, he began work as a journeyman electrician for Arneson Electric, Hayti, SD, where he was employed for more than 30 years. Baine married Evelyn (Horn) Tarum on January, 5, 1960. He lived and helped raise his family on the farm near Hazel, SD, until he retired to his home in Hayti, SD. He was a lifelong member of New Hope Lutheran Church, rural Hayti, SD. He was an active member and past Commander of Cook-Olsen Post #217, of the American Legion, Hayti, SD. He was deeply loved and will be missed by his many friends and family members. Baine is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of Hayti, SD; his children: Ruth and her husband, Winn Noem, of Bryant, SD, Rod Tarum of Lake Norden, SD, Judy and her husband, Mike Meyer, of Hayti, SD, Jim and his wife, Denise Tarum, of McKinney, TX, Martha and her husband, Gary Wiseman, of Bryant, SD, Mark Arneson of Watertown, SD, Mary and her husband, Harley Noem, of Spearfish, SD, and Perry and his wife, Charlotte Arneson, of Durham, NC; four brothers: Charles and his wife, Marilyn Arneson, of Lake Poinsett, SD, Glenn and his wife, Judy Arneson, and Ray and his wife, Joan Arneson, all of Hayti, SD, and Raymond and his wife, Kathy Kangas, of Moxee City, WA; 16 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers Milton “Owen” Arneson, and Roger Kangas.
