 A memorial visitation for Glenn J. Ness, age 88, of Watertown, SD, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2009, in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown. Glenn passed away on Monday, January 19, 2009, at the hospital in Watertown.
Glenn was born on January 9, 1921, at Clarissa, MN, to George and Julia (Peterson) Ness. He attended and graduated from Clarissa High School. Following graduation, Glenn worked on the family farm. Glenn married Betty LaVine on June 1, 1946, at Webster, SD. He worked on various farms in Minnesota. He was manager of the Carlson Family Farm until they sold the farm, and started the Watertown branch of Minnesota Rubber. Glenn was the maintenance foreman in Watertown until transferring to Mason City, IA, where Carlsons started another plant. He lived in Mason City for 15 years, then retired and moved back to Watertown. He was a former member of Ninth Avenue United Methodist Church. He was also a past president of Kiwanis. Glenn loved sports, especially following the Minnesota Twins and Vikings. He enjoyed golf, hitting a hole-in-one when he was seventy-seven years old, softball, bowling, and hunting. Glenn rented the gym at Roosevelt school to provide a place for kids to play basketball. Glenn is survived by his wife, Betty, of Watertown, SD; one son, Mike, and his wife, Kandra Ness, of Watertown, SD; one daughter, Julia Ness, of Spring Lake Park, MN; one brother, Elmo, and his wife, Bernice Ness, of Fridley, MN; five grandchildren: Holly (Terry) Eischens, Jeremy (Kari) Ness, Michelle (Chuck) Tweedy, Andrew (Linda) Ness, and Paul Ness; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Jim Ness; his parents; one brother, Emmett Ness, and three sisters: Hattie, Ella, and Ina. |
