Irene L. Olson Funeral services for Irene L. Olson, age 87, of Watertown, SD, formerly of rural Summit, SD will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26, 2009 in Hope Lutheran Church, Summit, SD. Rev. Justin Neugebauer will officiate. Music will be provided by Val Moen, organist, and Deverne and Janet Rickard, vocalists. Irene passed away on January 22, 2009 in a care center in Watertown, SD. She was the widow of Edwin R. Olson.

Burial will be in the spring in Lebanon Cemetery, rural Summit, SD. Pallbearers will be: Jerry Olson, Brian Olson, Mark Hanson, Charles Valberg, Erik Valberg, and Dave Eickmeyer.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Sunday from 2-5 p.m. and Monday in the church prior to services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Monday by 10:30 am for a prayer service.

Irene was born on May 3, 1921 in rural Summit, SD to John H. and Tena (Knudson) Bronson. She attended and graduated from Summit High School. Following graduation, she attended secretarial school and then worked in the ASCS office in Sisseton, SD. Irene then attended Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, MN

She married Edwin R. Olson on September 28, 1941 at Lebanon Lutheran Church in rural Summit. The couple lived on a farm in Grant County near Summit until moving to Watertown in 1991. Irene entered Jenkins Living Center in December of 1999.

She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church in Summit, Gideon’s Auxiliary, and a former member of Lebanon Lutheran Church. She was active in both churches, in the women’s group, and was a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, reading, and gardening. She also enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children: Jan and her husband, Charles Valberg, and Jerry and his wife, Ann Olson, all of Watertown, SD, Brian and his wife, Pam Olson, of West Dundee, IL, and Kristi and her husband, Mark Hanson, of Bemidji, MN; one sister, Maxine Ohnstad of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin, and her parents.
