Lenard L. Starr Funeral services for Lenard LeRoy Starr, age 80, of Watertown, SD, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009, in the Grace Lutheran Church, Watertown. Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma, as organist, and Judy Everson, as soloist. Lenard passed away on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

Burial, with military graveside honors provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be: Jerome Evan, Charlie Evan, Buzz Lang, and all of Lenard’s family and friends. Active pallbearers will be: Mike Starr, Ron Starr, Bob Starr, Steve Starr, Tanner Starr, Raymond Starr, Michael Starr, Lenard Starr, Jr., and Dallas Starr.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday, by 10:30 a.m., for a prayer service.

Lenard was born on January 28, 1929, at Council Bluffs, IA, to Raymond and Sarah (Noyes) Starr. He attended Council Bluffs schools. Lenard entered the U.S. Army on June 28, 1946, and was honorably discharged on November 21, 1947.

On April 14, 1956, Lenard married Barbara Koch at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD. Lenard owned and operated many service stations in Watertown. He also owned a towing service and a millwright business.

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the American Legion. Lenard enjoyed fabricating different things, working on cars, and teaching what he knew to others. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family. Lenard loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Lenard is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Watertown, SD; his six children: Lenard Starr, Jr., and Ron and his wife, Lynn Starr, all of Watertown, SD; Mike Starr and his fiancé, Tami, of Onalaska, WI; Steve Starr of Colorado Springs, CO; and Bob and his wife, Sherry Starr, and Sarah Ulschmid, all of Watertown, SD; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Vivian Rowlings and Kathleen Biesterveld, both of San Jose, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.
