Funeral Mass for Clara M. Hoff, age 99, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, 2009, in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Kranzburg, SD. Fr. Ken Koster will officiate. Music will be provided by Eileen Lindner, as organist, with the Holy Rosary Church Choir. Clara passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2009, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the widow of Nicholas Hoff.
Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Clara’s grandchildren. Active pallbearers will be Clara’s grandsons: Todd Kranz, Steve Heyn, William J. Hoff, Jason Stohr, Paul Reichling, and Larry Bachman. Visitation will be in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Rosary followed by an 8:00 p.m. Scripture service. Visitation will continue on Tuesday prior to services in the church. The family is requested to meet in the church on Tuesday, by 9:30 a.m., for a prayer service. Clara was born on September 3, 1909, at Clear Lake, SD, to Frank and Effie (Jones) Johnson. She graduated from Clear Lake and attended Eastern Normal Teachers’ College in Madison, SD. Clara taught in Bemis, SD. On November 27, 1930, Clara married Nicholas Hoff at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake, SD. The couple farmed in the Clear Lake area until moving near Goodwin, SD, in 1947. They continued to farm there until retiring and moving to Watertown in 1981. She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Clara enjoyed cooking, crocheting, sewing, and gardening. She also loved music. Clara is survived by her six children: Louise and her husband, James Reichling, of Park Rapids, MN, William and his wife, Alice Hoff, of Watertown, SD, Janette and her husband, Alvin Cook, of Clear Lake, SD, Lois and her husband, Richard Heyn, of Watertown, SD, Darlene and her husband, Douglas Stohr, of Clear Lake, SD, and Anita and her husband, Tom Kranz, of Goodwin, SD; one brother, Roger Johnson, of Clear Lake, SD; 34 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas, on May 24, 1996; one daughter, Judy Bachman; and her parents. |
