Mary Lou Van Heel Funeral services for Mary Lou Van Heel, age 68, of Watertown, SD, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4, 2009, in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown. Rev. Gary Westgard will officiate. Music will be provided by Janeen Kohl and Wendy Brown. Mary passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. She was the widow of Harvey D. Van Heel.

Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Pallbearers will be Mary’s children and grandchildren: David Van Heel, Laurie Taken, Marty Van Heel, Trevor Van Heel, Samantha Van Heel, Jessica Taken, Casey Van Heel, Jeremy Van Heel, and Jesse Van Heel.

Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday prior to services at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Saturday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.

Mary was born on March 14, 1941, at Sisseton, SD, to Rexford and Nancy Ellen (Simmons) Holman. She attended Sisseton High School.

On April 3, 1957, Mary married Harvey D. Van Heel at Sisseton, SD. The couple moved to Watertown, SD, in 1962. In 1975, they purchased the Regal Café in Watertown. They later sold the café and Mary went to work at Smith Equipment until she retired in June of 2003.

She enjoyed bowling, fishing, doing yard work, being with her friends, and spending time with her family; especially watching the grandkids participate in their sporting events.

Mary is survived by two sons: Marty and his wife, Carol Van Heel, of Watertown, SD, and David and his wife, Patty Van Heel, of Sturgis, SD; one daughter, Laurie, and her husband, Doug Taken, of Watertown, SD; one brother, Randy, and his wife, Donna Holman, of Castlewood, SD; one sister, Judy Dempsey, of Minneapolis, MN; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild, Kaiden.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; one daughter, Brenda; and three sisters.
