Marwood W. Kunde Memorial services for Marwood W. Kunde, age 87, of Watertown, SD will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 13, 2009 in Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, Watertown, SD. Rev. Christina Matson will officiate. Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill, organist, and Don Seim, soloist. Marwood passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at his residence in Watertown.

Private family burial, with military graveside rites provided by Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Watertown, will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Active pallbearers will be: Jeff Robinson, Pat Jenson, Paul Jenson, and Dylan O’Brien.

Crawford Funeral Chapel is handling the services.

Marwood was born on February 23, 1922 at rural Twin Brooks, SD to Erick and Annie (Kuper) Kunde. He attended and graduated from South Shore High School in 1941. Following graduation, he was a farmhand in the Stockholm area.

Marwood married Zona Larsen at the Evangelical Free Church parsonage on May 23, 1942. Marwood entered the U.S. Army on November 7, 1942 and served during WWII. He attended Communication School in Ft. Knox, KY and became a radio operator. He participated in the D-Day Landing at Normandy. Three months later he was transferred to the Pacific Theatre where he was stationed in various places, the longest at New Guinea. Marwood was honorably discharged December 7, 1945. Following his discharge, he returned to Watertown, SD and worked at the Watertown Airport Housing. In 1946, he began working for Great Lakes Pipeline which later became William’s Pipeline. He worked there until his retirement in 1984.

He was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer, VFW, American Legion, and the OCAW Union. Marwood was a former member of Grace Lutheran Church and Golden K. He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and traveling. He also enjoyed being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Marwood is survived by his wife, Zona, of Watertown, SD; two sons: James (Joanne) Kunde of Cambridge, MN and Michael (Deb) Kunde of Rogers, MN; two daughters: Connie (Denny) Robinson of Maple Grove, MN and Julie (Dan) Jenson of Watertown, SD; one brother, Ken (Frances) Kunde of Milbank, SD; six grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; seven great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Marles Sorensen.
