Funeral services for Bernice E. Redlin, age 81, of Watertown, SD, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mazeppa Township, rural Summit, SD. Rev. Jason Schulz will officiate. Music will be provided by Darlis Heuer, as organist, with congregational singing. Bernice passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2009, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Summit. Pallbearers will be: Gene Redlin, Alan Elshere, Rick Struss, Gordon Stormo, Rick Bieber, and Loren Leonard. Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Saturday, by 1:30 p.m., for a prayer service. Bernice was born on September 4, 1927, in Corson County near Trail City, SD, to Henry and Bertha (Zeller) Bieber. She graduated from Mobridge Lutheran Academy and received her Teacher’s Certificate from Northern Teacher College. Bernice taught a couple of years at Lura country school in Grant County. On June 29, 1947, Bernice married Wallace “Wally” A. Redlin in Trail City, SD. The couple ran Redlin Service and farmed north of Watertown. They sold the store in 1951, but continued farming until retirement. Wally and Bernice moved into Watertown in 2008. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she was the Sunday school superintendant for many years. She also belonged to various 4-H and extension clubs and chaired many election boards. Bernice enjoyed traveling and wintering in Texas with Wally. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, cooking, and researching family genealogy. Bernice always loved to entertain people. Bernice is survived by her husband, Wally, of Watertown, SD; one son, Wallace, and his wife, Jeanne Redlin, of Hermosa, SD; one daughter, LaVonne, and her husband, John Stedman, of Woodbridge, VA; one brother, Robert, and his wife, Teresa Bieber, of Yankton, SD; two sisters: Pearl and her husband, Verne Barrett, of Rapid City, SD, and Lyla and her husband, Tim VanOrman, of Mandan, ND; three grandchildren: Valerie and her husband, Daniel Wheeler, Cheryl Stedman, and Amy Stedman; and three great-grandchildren: Kade Wheeler, Ashton Wheeler, and Oakley Wheeler. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.
