Memorial services for William W. “Bud” Cope, age 95, of Denver, CO, formerly Watertown, SD, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD. Rev. Steven Bailey will officiate. Music will be provided by Jim and Peggy Biswell. William passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009, at a hospital in Denver, CO.
Visitation will be in the Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 from 12 to 2 p.m. Following the memorial service, burial, with Masonic Rites, will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. William was born on December 24, 1913, in Watertown, SD, to Thomas E. and Pearl (Sleeper) Cope. He graduated from Watertown High School in 1933 where he excelled in football, basketball, and track. He attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks on a football scholarship. On January 19, 1935, William married Harriet M. Peterson in Watertown, SD. They lived in Des Moines, IA, and Yakima, WA. William was employed with Swift and Company for 41 years. The couple returned to Watertown, SD in 1984 and resided there until his wife, Harriet, died in 2005. William then moved to Denver, CO, where his son, Bill, and daughter, Peggy Yocom, and family resided. William was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Eastern Star, Mason, and the Elks. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and hunting. He is survived by one son, William J. Cope, and one daughter, Peggy (LaVerne) Yocom, all of Denver, CO; one brother, Thomas Cope, of Silverdale, WA; one sister, Jeanne Hanson, of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. William was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. |
