Funeral services for Ervin B. Brown, age 80, of Watertown, SD, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2009, in Watertown Wesleyan Church, Watertown, SD. Rev. John MacDonald will officiate. Music will be provided by Bryan Tierney, organist, and Linda Mosteller, soloist. Ervin passed away on Monday, May 11, 2009, at his residence.
Burial, with military graveside honors provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown and Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Watertown, will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, friends, and fellow employees of City of Watertown. Active pallbearers will be Ervin’s grandsons: Tim Brown, Steven Brown, Martin Keimig, Ryan Small, Jeff Brown, and Brandon Bury. Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and in the church on Friday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service. Ervin was born on February 10, 1929, in Marshall County, SD, to Fred and Helen (Munzenreder) Brown. As adults, Ervin and his wife were baptized and confirmed on the same day. He was the third child of seven. He grew up farming. He attended and graduated from the Red Iron School #3 in Sisseton, SD. Ervin married Myrtle Luella Stavick on March 26, 1951, in Sisseton, SD. On June 8, 1951, he joined the U.S. Army. He served during the Korean War with the 811th Engineers Platoon, building air strips. Ervin was honorably discharged in 1954. Ervin went to work for the county, operating a bulldozer. He then worked for 37 years for Watertown Rendering Company. When the plant closed, Ervin worked at Midcom for eleven years and then retired. His last job was for Watertown City Park where he mowed for seven years. Ervin and Myrtle were married for 58 years and had five children. He was a life-long member of Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Watertown. Ervin was an avid gardener and hunter. He also loved to play cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Ervin is survived by his wife, Myrtle, of Watertown; five children: Allen (Rhonda) Brown of Brandon, SD, Ronald Brown of Monroe, WA, Curtis (Connie) Brown of Watertown, SD, Debra (Terrance) Heidemann of Volga, SD, and Kevin Brown and special friend, Kris of Watertown, SD; two brothers: Orville (Darlene) Brown of Sisseton, SD, and Calvin (Nyra) Brown of Watertown, SD; one sister, Dorothy (James) Carlson of Dawson, MN; and 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, Eric Heidemann; one granddaughter, Lisa Brown; his parents; one brother, Orion Brown; and two sisters: Delcy Bieshenvel, and Marilyn Brown. |
