Genevieve "Tommy" V. Caine May 16 2009
Funeral services for Genevieve “Tommy” Virginia Caine, age 86, of Watertown, SD, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2009, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Stephen Lauricella will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist and Don Seim as soloist. Tommy passed away on Saturday, May 16, 2009, at her residence. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be Genevieve’s “Bingo families” from the Knights of Columbus and Senior Citizens’ Center and her many other friends. Active pallbearers will be: Sheila Gustafson, Dennis Fagerstrom, Dan Wortman, Bob Constant, Scott Plumb, Ernie R. Vavruska, and August “Augie” SwimUnder. Visitation will be on Wednesday prior to services at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Wednesday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Tommy was born on October 5, 1922, in Long Prairie, MN, to Louie Hedin and Beatrice Ella Caine. She was baptized in Eden, SD, and attended high school through the ninth grade. Tommy worked at a produce plant in Iowa Falls, IA; worked as a ‘Rosie the Riveter’ in Seattle, WA, where she acquired her name “Tommy.” She worked at a poultry plant and as a taxi driver and a waitress in Sisseton, SD. Tommy later moved to Watertown and was employed by Minnesota Rubber for 15 years until her retirement. Her greatest accomplishment, she felt in her life, was that she worked and supported herself all of her life. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins and other TV programs and loved playing Bingo with her ‘Bingo families’ at the KC Hall and the Senior Citizens’ Center. She especially loved and spoiled her two cats, Buddy and Teeka. Tommy was a very generous and hospitable friend and neighbor. She was always very grateful to so many in the community who showed their kindnesses to her during her battle with breast cancer and throughout the years. Genevieve is survived by one adopted daughter, Penny Aspelund and one grandson, Scott Plumb, of Watertown, SD; one daughter-in-law, Margery Fagerstrom, of Hinckley, MN; one half-brother, Gene Hedin, of Swanville, MN; four grandchildren: David, Sheila, Dennis, and Doug; and eight great-grandchildren: Greg, Rachel, Brock, Kendra, Trent, Kyle, Tylor, and Zoe. She was preceded in death by one son, Skip; her parents; five half-brothers; and her grandparents.
