Dolores "Dolly" (Mrs. Dick) Seifel

Dolores Funeral services for Dolores “Dolly” (Mrs. Dick) Seifel, age 86, of Watertown, SD, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown, SD. Pastor Stephen Lauricella will officiate. Music will be provided by Marcia Jelsma as organist and Don Seim as soloist. Dolly passed away on Monday, June 1, 2009, at a care center in Watertown.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Honorary pallbearers will be former Grant school employees and Dolly’s card playing friends. Active pallbearers will be Dolly’s grandsons: Justin Penrod, Matthew Seifel, Jeffrey Schmidt, Donald Meyer, Tyler Pederson, and T.J. Snow.

Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Vesta Chapter-Order of the Eastern Star memorial service at 6:30 p.m. and Thursday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service.

Dolly was born on June 16, 1922, in Watertown, SD, to Guy and Margaret (McClung) Flanigan. She attended schools in Watertown and graduated from Watertown High School in 1942. While in high school, Dolly wrote a book about the history of Watertown. She worked for Consolidated Aircraft, drilling and fitting wings on the B24 Bomber during WWII, and became known as “Dolly the Driller.”

On December 20, 1944, Dolly married Richard “Dick” Seifel at Omaha, NE. The couple lived in Connecticut for two years and then moved to Watertown in 1947 and have lived here since. Dolly worked at JC Penney, Herberger’s, and was the secretary at Grant School for 23 years, followed by her retirement.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Ladies’ Aid. She was also a member of Eastern Star, the VFW Auxiliary, and the Shrine Auxiliary. Dolly enjoyed doing crafts, playing cards, cooking, gardening, entertaining, shopping, traveling, and loved spending time with family, especially with her grandchildren. She cared for many family members through the years. While working at Grant School, Dolly really enjoyed working with the teachers and students.

Dolly is survived by her husband, Dick, and one son, Burton, of Watertown; two daughters: Margaret “Peggy” Seifel of Rapid City, SD, and Tamara “Tammy” (Thomas) Penrod, of Tolstoy, SD; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Yvonne “Babe” Gowins, of Ft. Worth, TX.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Kenneth Flanigan.
