Lester C. Hemiller Funeral services for Lester C. Hemiller, age 88, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, 2009, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Watertown. Rev. Gerald Geiger and Rev. Keith Petersen will officiate. Music will be provided by Ellen Heisner as organist with congregational singing. Lester passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009, at his residence.

Burial, with military graveside honors provided by Frank H. Adams Post #750 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Watertown, will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be the 34th Signal Corps Personnel, Golden Age Members, and the Tuesday and Friday Sr. Bowlers. Active pallbearers will be Lester’s grandchildren: Robin Hemiller, Craig Marihart, Steven Erickson, Derek Erickson, Lisa Hardman, and Dave Hardman.

Visitation will be at Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service led by grandson, Craig Marihart, and a reading by daughter, Marcia Erickson. Visitation will continue on Friday in the church prior to services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service.

Lester was born on January 3, 1921, in Codington County, SD, to Fred and Adelia (Boehnke) Hemiller. He served with the 34th Signal Corps during WWII.

On May 9, 1945, Lester married Velva Meenk. The couple lived in Watertown; Clark, SD; and Canby, MN. Lester was employed by Codington Clark Equipment, formerly Codington County Implement Co.; Hi-Way Sign Co.; and was an instructor at Canby Vocational Technical Institute. Velva passed away on February 17, 1998.

He was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and held various offices in his churches. Lester was also a member of the SD National Guard, for many years; the 34th Signal Corps; Sr. Bowlers, and Golden Age Group. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending time with his family.

Lester is survived by one son, Ronald C. (Margureitte) Hemiller, of Johnson Creek, WI; two daughters: Marjorie P. (Tom) Marihart of Pocahontas, IA, and Marcia M. (Stan) Erickson of Westbrook, MN; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three brothers: Norman, Elmer, and Carl; and three sisters: Mamie, Freda, and Hazel.
