Funeral services for George R. “Bob” Tubbs, age 83, of Watertown, SD, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer in Watertown. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Music will be provided by A.J. Sherrill as organist and Robbyn Givens as soloist. Bob passed away on Friday, July 17, 2009, at the hospital in Watertown. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, rural Henry, SD. Military graveside honors will be provided by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown. Pallbearers will be Todd McGillivary, Wade Schaack, Tyler Schaack, Jay Adams, Brok Miller, and Jeff Wensing. Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday prior to services at the church. The family is requested to meet at the church on Wednesday by 9:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Bob was born on June 9, 1926, in Watertown, SD, to George and Addie (McDorman) Tubbs. He attended Happy Home #9 Country School east of Henry. Bob was employed by Swift & Co. as a meat cutter from 1944 to 1950. He entered the U.S. Army in 1950 and served with the 223rd Infantry 40th Division. During his service, Bob earned the Army Occupation Medal (Japan), the Korean Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged on October 17, 1952. Bob returned to Watertown to work with Swift & Co. He also worked for Swift in Oklahoma and Arizona. When Bob returned to Watertown, he worked for Minnesota rubber for 10 years. In 1973, Bob received an Associate of Art Degree from Glendale Community College, Glendale, AZ. He was a member of Lutheran Church of Our Redeemer and Kiwanis. Bob enjoyed model tractors and cars and spending mornings with his coffee group at Burger King. He also enjoyed going to cardiac rehab, making 1,545 visits in the past 10 years. Bob loved spending time with all of his nieces and nephews and their families. Bob is survived by his nieces and nephews: Joyce (Marv) McGillivary of Henry, SD, Jim (Faye) Schaack of Watertown, SD, Joan (John) Zarro of Troy MI, Sandra Schaack of Henry, SD, Buck (Vikki) Schaack of Brookings, SD, Jeff (Jamie) Schaack of Henry, SD, and Jolene (Daryl) Miller of Hanska, MN; and several grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews who were very special to Bob. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Henrietta Falck Schaack; and two nephews, Jack and Jerry.
