Funeral services for John E. Fox, age 86, of Watertown, SD, will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2009, at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Rev. Scott Dempster will officiate. Music will be provided by Julie Radach, pianist, Ana Schweer, violinist, and Diane Schweer and Vic Radach, vocalists. John passed away from heart disease on Monday, July 20, 2009 at his home in Watertown. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown. Honorary pallbearers will be: Sheldon Little, Dwayne Blocker, Andrew Lenander, Jim Glosimodt, Melvin Hanson, and Orville Taecker. Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Thursday prior to services at the chapel. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Thursday by 1:45 p.m. to attend the services. Memorials will be directed towards foreign missions. John Everett Fox was born in Naples, SD, on May 14, 1923, the only child of Leon and Inga (Johnson) Fox. He attended school in Clark County and completed the Aggie Short Course at SDSU in Brookings, SD. He farmed on the family farm until December 1960, when he moved to Watertown where he was employed by Lakeview Hatchery. In 1965, he opened DelMar Upholstery in partnership with his wife, Deloris. After selling the upholstery shop, he was employed by the Watertown Housing Authority until his retirement in 1988. John married Deloris Landekil on June 28, 1954, in Colman, SD. To this union, five children were born. John is survived by his wife, Deloris, of Watertown, and his children: Leslie and husband, Larry Thorson, of Watertown, WI; Padraic and wife, Priscilla Fox, of Virginia Beach, VA; Laurie and husband, Thomas Ries, of Watertown, SD; Kimberly and husband, Dannie McDowell, of Manassas, VA; and Robin Schwandt of Watertown, SD; 14 grandchildren: Mara Thorson, China; Joel Thorson, Hawaii; Caleb Thorson, Australia; Sean Fox, China; Collin, Neal and Alyson Fox, Virginia; Calah Ries Hansen, Minnesota; Elizabeth, Benjamin, Sierra and Jordan Ries, Watertown, SD; Jessenia McDowell, VA; and Eric Schwandt, Watertown, SD; and four great grandchildren: Asher, Anna, and Jesse Thorson, and Hayden Ries. He was preceded in death by his parents.
