Memorial services for Joan M. Bixby, age 67, of Watertown, SD will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2009 in Cornerstone United Methodist Church, Watertown, SD. Rev. Roger Spahr will officiate. Music will be provided by Jackie Wettestad, John Freese, Dean Skoglund, and Shirley Skoglund. Honorary pallbearers will be Joan’s grandchildren, Michaela and Tate Skoglund. Joan passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 at her residence. Visitation will be in Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. and in the church on Friday prior to the services. The family is requested to meet at the church on Friday by 10:30 a.m. to attend a prayer service. Memorials may be directed to the Watertown Regional Library and Prairie Lakes Hospice. Joan was born on June 3, 1942 at Sibley, IA to Merle and Evelyn (Nicola) Anderson. When she was three years old, the family moved to a farm in Deuel County, SD. She attended school in Clear Lake, SD and graduated in 1960. Joan married Donald Bixby on June 21, 1964 at Clear Lake. The couple lived in Worthington and Windom, MN before moving to Pipestone, MN in 1972. In 1998, they moved to Watertown, SD and have since resided here. Joan was always an active person until her health started deteriorating in 2002. She was a member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church. Joan was a wonderful mom and grandmother. She loved taking care of her family. She enjoyed horseback riding in her youth, reading, cooking, cleaning, playing cards, and having coffee with her family and friends. She was a sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed the Minnesota Twins. Joan is survived by her husband, Donald, of Watertown; one daughter, Barb (Doug) Skoglund of Watertown, SD; one son, Curt Bixby of Pipestone, MN; two grandchildren; one brother, Jim (Betty) Anderson of Baltic, SD; and two sisters: June (Floyd) Wiesner of Brookings, SD and Jackie (Clyde) Fuehrer of Jordan, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents and one grandson, Joseph Donald Skoglund.
