 Funeral services for Roger Dean Benson, age 65, of Grand Island, NE, will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 10, 2009, at Crawford Funeral Chapel, Watertown, SD. Rev. Tom Christenson will officiate. Music will be provided by A. J. Sherrill as organist and Don Seim as soloist. Roger passed away peacefully at his sister’s residence in Colorado on Wednesday, August 5, 2009, after a brief illness from cancer.
Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Clark, SD. Pallbearers will be: Mark Davis, Tony Kneeland, John Schwandt, Troy Benson, Don Herman, Joe Bishop, and Bob Dreher. Visitation will be prior to the services on Monday. The family is requested to meet at the chapel on Monday by 10:30 a.m. for a prayer service. Roger was born on March 12, 1944, in Clark, SD, to Robert and Winifred (Page) Benson. From Clark, Roger moved to Grand Island, NE, which he called home his entire adult life. Roger recently moved to Colorado and lived with his sister and brother-in-law. Roger enjoyed cooking, watching cartoons, and all sports. He always made others laugh and was the prankster of the bunch. He would do anything to make you smile and was a stranger to no one. He was a very hard worker all of his life. He was loved by everyone who knew him and will be greatly missed. Roger is survived by his three children: Travis, Alexa, and Jessica Benson all of Grand Island, NE; his mother, Winnie Fisk, of Watertown, SD; his siblings: twin brother, Roy (Maxine) Benson, of Odessa, TX, Earl (Sandy) Benson of Watertown, SD, Claire (Tammy) Fisk, Jr., of Huntsville, AR, David (Joan ) Fisk of Box Elder, SD, and Debra (Joe) Bishop of Arvada, CO; special friend, Gayle Strohacker, many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and faithful companion, Baxter. He was preceded in death by his father and step-father, Claire Fisk. |
