David H. "Dave" Doyen

David H. Funeral services for David “Dave” H. Doyen, age 66, Watertown, SD, will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2009, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Watertown. Rev. Benjamin Radtke will officiate. Music will be provided by Brian Schwanz with congregational singing. Dave passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2009, at a hospital in Sioux Falls, SD.

A private family burial will be in Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery, rural Vienna. Honorary pallbearers will be: UPS employees, Watertown Ford employees, Casino Speedway employees, the Wednesday Night Book Club members, Calvin Schulte, Junior Block, Bryan Kjetland, and Troy VanDusen . Active pallbearers will be: Robert Wegman, Elwin Larson, Tom Furchner, Robbie Doyen, Brad Doyen, Bert Stanley, Terry Frost, and Dave Forney.

Visitation will be at the Crawford Funeral Chapel in Watertown on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. The family is requested to meet at the church on Thursday by 1:30 p.m. for a prayer service.

Memorials may be directed to St. Martin’s Lutheran Church or the Watertown Hockey Association.

Dave was born on February 6, 1943, at Clark, SD, to Minert and Iola (Seim) Doyen. He graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1961. Dave earned ‘All-State’ honors in track and football while attending high school. Following high school, Dave was employed at Park Grant in Watertown.

On October 10, 1965, Dave married Jean Wegman at Raymond, SD. Dave worked at Cave Supply from 1970 to 1972, and then worked at UPS, as a driver, for 27 ½ years. He retired in 2000 and then worked at Watertown Ford Chrysler.

He was a member of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church. Upon his retirement, Dave enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and helping his friends complete their home projects. He supported and enjoyed his boys’ sports and volunteered countless hours at the Watertown Ice Arena and the Casino Speedway. Dave was an avid race car fan. His interests were many, including: hockey, woodworking, football, and playing cards.

Dave is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean, of Watertown; two sons: Tom (Jennifer) Doyen, of Dacula, GA, and Jon Doyen and his companion, Jill Brown, of Watertown, SD; four grandchildren: Cooper, Laike, Jack, and Vaughn; one brother, Don (Ruth) Doyen, of Spearfish, SD; one sister, Sonja (Tom) Furchner, of Suwanee, GA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
